853 Office desks

”It all depends on which side of the desk you’re sitting on.” (Len Wein)
Desks are the essential part of office furniture, from operative rooms to management offices. Their aesthetic and functional role is a key factor in workspace organization. If in operative rooms the desk is used for 8-10 hours per day, then they must satisfy ergonomy requirements. In management rooms desks have a representative role and so they must be chosen accordingly. By following some design rules, choosing the right desk isn’t hard. On Archiproducts you can discover which model best suits your needs and your personal idea of workspace.

Office desk aesthetics changes according to the room in which they are placed. Executive desks go into management rooms and are larger and can have complex configurations. Executive desks can come with chests of drawers, bookcases and other matching office furniture as well as integrated peripherals wiring systems. For their representative role, they are made of valuable materials and come with refined finishings. The classic and timeless wooden office desks give the office an elegant look and they put together aesthetics and easy maintenance of the material. Glass office desks matched with wooden or steel structures are fit for modern style offices while leather office desks are perfect to outfit the office in modern or classic style.

The most important need when organizing operative rooms is ergonomy together with space optmization in relation with the tasks that have to be performed. Workstation desks are small and they can fit in rooms creating configurations that vary according to the available space: linear, front to front, “U” shape or “C” Shape. The most common ones are the rectangular office desks which have a linear worktop which can be more or less wide, and the L-shaped office desks which allow for an optimal used of the work space. Operative desks often come with chests of drawers that go under them, metal PC holding trolleys or structures and wiring holes. Operative desks are made of lighter materials in order to be easily moved in the office if needed. Double face laminated panes having a 25-30 mm thickness veneered with melaminic or plastic sheets, ABS structures which can be wooden or metal for greater resistance.

The ergonomy of the workplace is fundamental for workers’ health. Desks with PCs give workers a problem if the tops are too high and not adjustable to the height of the worker. Non-adjustable chairs or with too long or too short seats and computer screens with reflecting surfaces are just some of the problems. According to ergonomic principles, the minimum size for a rectangular desk are 120x80cm in order to have enough space for the keyboard, the screen and the documents. The keyboard should be placed on the desktop so to have enough room for the arms to rest on it. The worktop has to be height adjustable starting from a minimum height of 68 up o 82 cm and it has to come with a pale, opaque color. PC monitor has to be a 20 cm distance at least from the worker. Visual distance between operator and standard size monitor (15-17 inches) has to be between 50 and 80 cm to be increased in case of larger monitors. The screen has to be placed slightly lower than the eyes of the operator and at a minimum distance of 150 cm from the windows or light sources. ... More ... less
